Abstract

This study aims to implement the Gauss–Jordan elimination method in solving fixed pulley problems and to design physics teaching materials in the form of modules. Students' difficulties in understanding fixed pulley systems often arise due to limitations in compiling and solving linear equation systems, especially with more than two variables. The Gauss–Jordan method is considered more systematic as an alternative to numerical solutions. The study uses a non-experimental quantitative descriptive approach with the following stages: theoretical study, method application, module preparation, expert judgment feasibility test, and conclusion. The implementation steps include depicting free forces, compiling SPL into matrix form, transforming into an expansion matrix, elementary row operations, and interpreting the results. The implementation results show that this solution method obtains identical results to the elimination substitution method in determining the acceleration of the system and the tension of the rope. The initial feasibility test obtained a score of 79.2% (feasible) and increased to 87.1% (very feasible) after revision. These findings indicate that the Gauss–Jordan method supports a systematic approach in physics learning as well as strengthening numeracy and high-level thinking skills according to the Merdeka Curriculum.
