Abstract

This study aims to analyze quality control in the production process of wooden fishing boats at traditional shipyards in the Puger region using the Six Sigma method. The main issue identified in the production process is the high number of defects found in the boat structure, such as cracks, uneven surfaces, broken wood, and loose joints. These defects are primarily caused by manual work methods, limited skilled labor, and the absence of standardized operating procedures applied consistently. The research adopts the Six Sigma approach through the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) phases. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews, and documentation from five wooden boats under construction. The results show a total of 217 defects across different boat sections. The calculated Defects Per Million Opportunities (DPMO) is 301,389, with a Sigma level of 2.02, indicating that the production process is still far from meeting ideal quality standards. A Pareto diagram reveals that the most frequent defect is cracking on the boat hull. Through Fishbone Diagram and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), the root causes of defects are identified, including human error, inappropriate working methods, and suboptimal material quality. Proposed improvements include worker training, the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and the addition of inspection checkpoints at key stages in the boatbuilding process. The outcomes of this research are expected to serve as a reference for wooden shipyards to enhance the quality of their production processes in a systematic and sustainable manner.
