    Abstract
Lady Chatterley’s Lover by D. H. Lawrence tells about Connie who has a conflict with her husband, Clifford. After he is sent to war and being impotent, Connie lacks of intimacy and affection. She exactly cannot cope with her husband’s physical and emotional paralysis, because as a young normal married woman she finds that she must fulfill her own need at very basic level-sexual need. When that need is not fulfilled, she has an idea to solve the problem by having relationship with another man. The purpose of writing this thesis is to get understanding that literature presents human problems. By studying the main character’s motivation, the readers could learn and get moral message of how to solve the human problems in the daily life especially dealing with motivation of needs which can cause the destruction of the family. This research aims at answering three main problems; 1) what are the physical needs of Connie 2) What are the spirituals needs of Connie, 3) How is Connie’s unfulfillment of needs related to her marriage. The method used in writing this thesis is inductive method. An inductive method is to collect data from a specific to the general one to get the conclusion. In arranging this thesis, the researcher conducts a library research. Psychological approach is applied in this thesis. The theory used in this thesis is taken from Abraham Harold Maslow to discuss the fulfillment and the unfulfillment of Connie’s Needs in her family which builds the conflict with her husband, Clifford. The result of this discussion shows that people are controlled by their needs.
