Abstract

This experimental research was conducted to explore the effect of using Digital Storytelling in teaching listening on the eleventh-grade students. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Kencong in the 2022/2023 academic year. The population of this research was eight classes of eleventh-grade students. The participants of this research were selected based on the homogeneity test result was tested of the students' scores population. Based on the results of the homogeneity test, the population was homogeneous. Therefore, the experimental group and control group were chosen two classes based on cluster random sampling by using lottery. As a result, 36 students of class XI 4 and 35 students of class XI 1 were the participants of this research. The students in the experimental group were taught listening by using Digital Storytelling while in the control group were taught listening by using without digital storytelling. Then after the giving treatment to the experimental group using Digital Storytelling and teaching without digital storytelling to the control group, the researcher administrated the post-test in the third meeting to measure the students' listening achievement. The SPSS program was used to determine the mean different between the two groups. Based on data analysis, the results of this research revealed that there was significant effect of using Digital Storytelling on students' listening on the eleventhgrade students at SMAN 1 Kencong. It was proven by the significant value of 0.002 which was lower than 0.05. This means that the hypothesis: "there is a significant effect in the use of Digital Storytelling on the listening of grade XI students at SMAN 1 Kencong" is accepted. Based on the results of this study, it was proved that there is a significant effect of using Digital Storytelling in teaching listening on the eleventh-grade students. Therefore, the researcher would like to give some suggestions to English teachers, students and future researchers. It is recommended for English teachers to teach listening by using Digital Storytelling. The researcher also recommend that students improve their memory and discover new listening skills using Digital Storytelling. In addition, this result of this research can be used by future researchers a guidance to investigate further research on different skills, areas or design. Besides, due to the limitation of this research, the future researchers are advised to arrange research design such as classroom action research to improve students’ listening comprehension learning outcomes using the Digital Storytelling.
