Abstract
This research was conducted in response to the need for modernization in Indonesia's coffee industry to maintain global competitiveness through improved post-harvest processing efficiency. Current mechanical sorting processes at PT. Nor Coffee Indonesia face technical challenges where improper tilt angles of the sorting trays lead to inconsistent grading and material flow blockages. The objective of this study is to determine the optimal tilt angle for coffee bean separation and analyze its influence on the smoothness of the bean flow. The research will be conducted from January to May 2025 using an experimental method with an inclinometer to precisely vary the machine's tilt angle. Key parameters measured include sorting time using a stopwatch and the weight of sorted fractions using digital scales across different bean sizes (7.5 mm, 6.5 mm, and 5.5 mm). The ANOVA results confirmed that the inclination angle significantly affected the sorting performance (p < 0.05). Overall, the 20° inclination angle provided the highest working capacity and shortest processing time, whereas the 10° inclination angle achieved the highest sorting effectiveness and accuracy.
