The Representation Of Faith And Piety To God Almighty And Citizenship Dimensions In The English For Nusantara Textbook For Grade VIII

Abstract

Faith and Piety to God Alimighty and Citizenship dimensions are important elements that should be developed among students in Indonesia because of the country’s diverse cultural, ethnic, religious, and backgrounds. This study aimed to investigate the representation of Faith and Piety to God Almighty and Citizenship dimensions in the English for Nusantara textbook for Grade VIII derived from the Eight Dimensions Graduate Profiles. This study employed a descriptive qualitative design using content analysis. The data consisted of textual and visual materials collected from the textbook and analyzed based on ten sub-dimensions. The findings revealed 82 data entries representing nine of the ten sub-dimensions. The most dominant dimension was C5 (Promoting Sustainable Life, Environmental Preservation, and International Harmony), followed by C1 (Demonstrating Pride in National Identity and Culture), F4 (Maintaining Harmonious Relationships with Fellow Human Beings), and C3 (Maintaining National Unity). Several dimensions appeared at very low frequencies, while F3 (Maintaining a Relationship with God Almighty) was not represented in the textbook. The findings indicate greater emphasis on environmental sustainability and citizenship than on spiritual and diversity-related aspects. Therefore, teachers and textbook developers should consider providing supplementary materials and a more balanced representation of these sub-dimensions.
