Abstract
Soil chemical quality can be determined using a quantitative measurement tool, namely the soil quality index. Soil quality is one of the main factors that determine land and ecosystem productivity, especially in areas experiencing pressure due to human activities and changes in land use. This study aims to analyze soil quality based on chemical properties in various soil types, land use, and slope levels in the Rembangan Sub-watershed, Jember Regency. This study was conducted in the Rembangan Sub-watershed (DAS) which consists of 5 sub-districts, namely Jelbuk, Arjasa, Patrang, Sukorambi, and Panti with an altitude ranging from 125.91 - 864.67 meters above sea level. The parameters observed included soil pH, organic C content, total nitrogen (N-total), cation exchange capacity (CEC), base saturation (KB), and macronutrient content such as P, K, Ca, Na, and Mg. Data analysis was carried out using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method to determine the Minimum Data Set (MDS) as a representation of the most significant soil quality indicators. The research results show that differences in soil type, land use, and slope significantly influence variations in soil chemical properties, which in turn influence the soil quality index (SQI). These findings are expected to form the basis for sustainable land management and soil conservation policymaking in the Rembangan Sub-watershed.
