Abstract
Diabetic foot ulcers are a complication in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients which causes nursing problems that disrupt tissue integrity. Honey therapy is effective in healing diabetic wounds. Honey is one of the dressing options for treating diabetic foot ulcers. Randu honey (Ceiba pentandra) is the most common type of honey in East Java, Indonesia. The aim of the research was to identify the effectiveness of giving randu honey in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. The type of research is a descriptive quantitative experimental case study pre-posttest design. The research sample was type 2 DM patients who were treated in the Arjuna ward of dr. Abdoer Rahem Situbondo hospital with diabetic foot ulcers according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Intervention every 2 days for 5 interventions. The research instrument used the Bates-Jensen Wound Assessment Tool (BWAT) scale for wound assessment. Analysis is carried out to see the increase or decrease in BWAT scale scores and determine the level of wound healing. The results of the study showed an increase in wound healing with a decrease in the BWAT scale score in the first intervention with a score of 57 (regeneration) and the fifth or last intervention with a score of 17 (regeneration). Using randu honey as a wound dressing can stimulate wound healing without allergic reactions or secondary bacterial infections in chronic wounds of people with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus. The conclusion is that randu honey can be an alternative therapy option for healing wounds, especially in diabetic foot ulcers, to overcome the nursing problem of tissue integrity disorders
