Hubungan Paparan Layar dan Stres Akademik terhadap Kualitas Tidur pada Siswa Program Non-Boarding di SMA Assaadah Kabupaten Gresik

Abstract

Introduction: Sleep quality is an important physiological need that supports adolescents’ physical health, cognitive function, and psychological well-being. However, poor sleep quality remains prevalent among adolescents, with previous studies reporting rates of 76.5% in Semarang Regency, 73.1% in Central Lampung Regency, and 58.1% of sleep disturbances among high school students in Gresik Regency. High screen use and academic stress are also common among adolescents, with prevalence rates of 65.4% and 68.1%, respectively. SMA Assaadah was selected because it is a non-boarding school in Gresik Regency, where students’ screen exposure, academic demands, and sleep quality are relevant to the study topic. Aim: This study aimed to analyze the association of screen exposure and academic stress with sleep quality among non-boarding students at SMA Assaadah, Gresik Regency. Method: This study used a quantitative analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 380 non-boarding students, with 202 respondents selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected through structured interviews using the Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire (ASAQ), Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (ESSA), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-square test and Prevalence Ratio (PR) at a significance level of p<0.05. Result: Screen activity duration was significantly associated with sleep quality (PR=6.246; 95% CI: 2.707–14.413), as was screen viewing distance (PR=1.772; 95% CI: 1.728–2.642). Meanwhile, screen use timing and academic stress were not significantly associated with sleep quality. Conclusion: he study concluded that screen activity duration and viewing distance were associated with sleep quality, whereas screen use timing and academic stress were not significantly associated with sleep quality.
