Abstract

Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) are a horticultural crop with high economic value and are widely cultivated in Indonesia. Efforts to improve the growth and yield of tomato plants can be achieved through the application of the Dutch Bucket hydroponic system combined with the application of auxin and gibberellin hormones. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Dutch Bucket hydroponic system in supporting the growth and productivity of two tomato varieties, to determine the effect of auxin and gibberellin application on tomato plant growth and yield in the Dutch Bucket hydroponic system, and to determine the interaction between tomato varieties and auxin gibberellin application on tomato plant growth and yield. This study employs a split-plot design consisting of two factors—tomato varieties (Gustavi F1 and Servo F1) and auxin gibberellin hormone concentrations (50, 100, and 150 ppm) with three replications. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% significance level when a significant effect was found. The results showed that auxin and gibberellin treatment had a significant effect on fruit weight and a highly significant effect on tomato fruit volume. The 100 ppm auxin and gibberellin treatment yielded the best response for both variables. Meanwhile, fruit diameter, red tomato fruit weight, the number of red tomatoes, the number of green tomatoes, and green tomato fruit weight did notshow any significant effects. The interaction between tomato variety and gibberellin had a significant effect only on fruit thickness. Based on the research results, the application of auxin and gibberellin at a concentration of 100 ppm was the most effective treatment for improving the physical quality of tomatoes in the Dutch Bucket hydroponic system.
