Abstract
Laundry services contribute to the increasing volume of liquid waste discharged into the environment. Detergents used in laundry businesses contain phosphate from Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP) as a builder, which can cause eutrophication and reduce dissolved oxygen levels in aquatic ecosystems. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of plant mass and waste concentration using Salvinia molesta on phosphate removal from laundry wastewater. The experiment applied two levels of plant mass (0 g, 100 g, and 150 g) and two levels of waste concentration (20% and 40%), with retention times of 3, 6, 9, and 12 days. The experimental data were analyzed using a Two-Way ANOVA. The results showed that the best treatment was obtained at B2C1 (150 g plant mass at 20% waste concentration), achieving a phosphate removal efficiency of 67.91%. Statistical analysis indicated that plant mass significantly affected phosphate removal and concertration (p = <0,001) and the interaction between plant mass and waste concentration (p = 0,654) . Therefore, phytoremediation using Salvinia molesta has considerable potential as an eco-friendly alternative method to reduce phosphate levels in laundry wastewater. However, further optimization is required to improve phosphate removal efficiency.
