Abstract
Grammar is one of the components in English, in which, according to Alhaysony (2017), can be challenging for learners to adapt and remember the grammar rules. It is because some grammatical features exist and some others do not exist in the first language. Therefore, it becomes problem for students to master grammar. The use of the technology can be an alternative to teach grammar to students. Raja and Nagasubramani (2018) explained that students prefer using technology while they are learning because it is interactive. Kahoot can be one of the options. It is a website that provides engaging activities through assessment. In one of the high schools in Jember also faced this problem. The students tended to forget the tenses’ pattern and it resulted in the low score they got in grammar. The students obtained an average score of 29.52, with the highest score being 45. Most students scored below 50, and only 52.38% of the students achieved scores above 30. This research used classroom action research because there was a problem in grammar in the classroom. The research took two cycles and the findings showed improvement in both students’ classroom participation and grammar achievement. The findings indicate that Kahoot helped create a more interactive learning environment and encouraged students to participate actively during grammar lessons. Through repeated practice, immediate feedback, and gamified learning activities, students became more engaged in the learning process, which was followed by improvements in their grammar achievement. Therefore, Kahoot can be considered an alternative learning medium to support grammar instruction in English classrooms.
