Abstract
The transformation of shopping patterns towards Online platforms among Generation Z potentially triggers consumptive behavior, despite the fact that their financial literacy level is generally adequate. This phenomenon warrants study, as a pre-survey on S1 Management students at Jember University Class of 2022 indicated controlled Online spending patterns, suggesting a critical role for self- control as a key determinant. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the direct and indirect influence of financial literacy on Online consumptive behavior, mediated by self-control. The research employed a quantitative causal approach on a sample of 152 students and the data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling - Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results show that Financial Literacy negatively influences Consumptive Behavior and positively influences Self-control. Crucially, Self-control was proven to fully mediate the relationship between Financial Literacy and Consumptive Behavior. The study concludes that sound financial literacy encourages the formation of strong self-control, which is the ultimate factor in suppressing consumptive behavior. It is recommended that students enhance self-control during Online shopping and engage in financial discussions, and that universities strengthen practical financial literacy programs.
