Modifikasi Membran PVDF/ZIF-8 Dengan Variasi Pva Untuk Performa Fluks dan Penurunan Turbiditas

Abstract

The need for clean water is becoming increasingly urgent as the population grows and industrial activity expands, which often degrades water quality by increasing turbidity. Membrane technology offers an efficient solution for water treatment, and PVDF is widely used due to its chemical and mechanical stability. However, the hydrophobic nature of PVDF makes it susceptible to fouling, necessitating modifications to enhance its hydrophilicity. This study modified PVDF/ZIF-8 membranes with PVA using the NIPS method. Variations in PVA concentration (0.1%, 1%, 2%) and soaking time (5, 10, 15 minutes) were tested to assess their effects on flux and turbidity reduction. Characterization was performed using FTIR, SEM-EDX, and WCA. The results show that PVA concentration and soaking time significantly affect membrane performance. The highest flux was obtained with 1% PVA and a 5-minute soaking time (57.09 L m⁻² h⁻¹), while the best turbidity removal was achieved with 2% PVA and a 15-minute soaking time (96.10%, permeate 1.95 NTU). Characterization supports these findings: a WCA value of 46.57° indicates increased hydrophilicity, FTIR identified PVA functional groups, and SEM-EDX revealed changes in surface morphology. Overall, the modification of PVDF/ZIF-8 with PVA successfully enhanced the hydrophilic properties and performance of the membrane. A 1% PVA concentration was optimal for flux, while 2% PVA with longer soaking time outperformed it in turbidity removal, making it a potential candidate for water filtration applications.
