Efektivitas Variasi Tegangan dan Jarak Elektroda Terhadap Kadar TSS Limbah Cair Tambak Udang dengan Elektrokoagulasi

Abstract

Shrimp farm effluent is a type of wastewater containing TSS (Total Suspended Solids) that has the potential to pollute the environment if its concentration exceeds established quality standards. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the electrocoagulation method using lightweight steel electrodes with varying electrode distances (1,5 cm, 4 cm, and 7 cm) and voltage levels (1 volt, 1,5 volt, and 2 volts) on the final TSS concentration. The experiments were conducted using a batch-type electrocoagulation reactor with a constant contact time of 60 minutes. The results of the study show that the most effective conditions were achieved at a plate spacing of 1,5 cm and a voltage of 2 volts. The removal rate was 73,8%, with an initial concentration of 285,25 mg/l, which decreased to 74,75 mg/l. The TDS level increased from 24,455.67 mg/L to 27,812.67 mg/L, with a salinity level of 26 ‰. Statistical analysis using nonlinear regression showed that the distance between the plates and the stress significantly affected the final TSS concentration (p-value < 0,05). Thus, the electrocoagulation method proved to be effective in reducing the TSS concentration in shrimp farm wastewater by varying the electrode distance and voltage.
