Abstract
Voltage profile degradation in distribution networks is one of the major issues that can affect the quality and reliability of electrical power delivery to consumers. One of the effective solutions to overcome this problem is the proper installation of capacitor banks to provide optimal reactive power compensation. This study aims to determine the optimal locations for capacitor bank installation using the Fast voltage stability index (FVSI) method and to analyze its impact on improving the voltage profile of the Pronojiwo Feeder. The study was conducted using ETAP 19.0.1 through load flow simulations to obtain the initial network condition, followed by FVSI calculations for each distribution line to determine the optimal capacitor bank placement. The optimization process was carried out iteratively by installing three capacitor banks, each with a capacity of 1 MVAr, on the distribution lines with the highest FVSI values in each iteration, namely Bus 55–Bus 56, Bus 160–Bus 153, and Bus 66–Bus 67 toward Bus 222. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method successfully improved the voltage profile of the distribution network. The voltage at the most critical bus increased from 81.80% to 91.64%, thereby satisfying the minimum allowable voltage limit. Based on these findings, the Fast voltage stability index (FVSI) method can be effectively applied to determine the optimal locations for capacitor bank installation in order to improve the voltage profile of the Pronojiwo distribution feeder.
