dc.description.abstract | Works stress is a condition in which a person shows adaptive responses facilitated
by the individual distinctions as the subsequence of each action, situation, or
event which allows specific demand to the person himself. In this research, the
works stress variable was considered as an exogenous variable and was divided
into four categories namely, stressors which are related to individuals, stressors
which are related to groups, stressors which are related to organization, and
stressors which are non-related to work. Those stress variables were consulted to
both the job satisfaction variable as the intervening variable and the working
spirit as the endogenous variable. State Polytechnic of Jember was the research
object of this study. Involving 135 individuals, this research employed both
lecturers and the engineering staffs as the sample of this research. Samples were
taken using the stratified proportional random sampling method. This research
employed Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) as the means of analysis through
the help of AMOS program. Results of the research revealed that the stressors
which were related to individuals, organization, as well as stressors which were
non-related to work contributed significantly to the performance satisfaction of
the officers at State Polytechnic of Jember. On the other hand, the stressors which
were related to group did not affect the job satisfaction of the officers at State
Polytechnic of Jember significantly. Other interesting findings also revealed that
the stressors which were related to group and those which were non-related to
work affected the spirit of the employees at State Polytechnic of Jember
significantly, while stressors which were related to individuals and organization
did not. In addition, the job satisfaction contributed significantly to the working
spirit of the officers at State Polytechnic of Jember, respectively.
