ADOLESCENT IN PERIL: SMOKING AND FORMING RISK BEHAVIOUR TOWARD HIV/AIDS IN GIRL ADOLESCENT
Abstract
Background: World Health Organization (WHO) said that smoking behaviour has become
public health problem importantly in the whole world since last decade. Indonesia is one of developing country having high cigarette consumption and production level. Although a lot of researches showed smoking has health effect, the smoker is increasing every year, especially girl adolescent smoker.
Objective: This study aims to analyze smoking behaviour can formed risk behaviour to
HIV/AIDS in girl adolescent, which consist of drinking alcohol, doing free sex and drugs
consumption.
Methods: It was a qualitative exploration involved informants aged 17-23 with purposive
sampling (girl adolescent, active smoker) in Jember city. Data was collected by in-depth
interview and they’re analyzed by thematic content analysis.
Results: The result of this study showed that all informant have risk behaviour toward
HIV/AIDS. All of informants have been active smoker and drunk alcohol. Average of them are drugs user both injection and oral. It caused HIV transmission by using unsafe injection. They said that smoking was one packet with drinking alcohol and consuming drugs. Average of them had risk behaviour in doing free sex. They said that smoking is one packet with alcohol and free sex. A few of them have did sexual intercourse with her common friend at two weeks ago after smoke and drunk alcohol together. It showed that girl adolescent smoker had permissive behaviour with alcohol, drug, and free sex. It caused virus transmission risk from unsafe heterosexual relationship.
Conclusion: Smoking on girl adolescent is enter point to another risk behaviour toward
HIV/AIDS. Because smoking formed them to be drug user, alcohol consumer and free sex
person.
Suggestion: Intensive health promotion about the danger of smoking is needed to girl
adolescent.
