Abstract

Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.) is a high-value horticultural commodity widely cultivated in highland areas. In Argosari Village, Senduro District, Lumajang Regency, the relatively extreme field conditions make manual spraying less efficient because it requires considerable labor and time. Therefore, an automatic spraying system is needed to improve operational efficiency in cabbage cultivation. This study aimed to design and develop an automatic cabbage spraying device equipped with a remote control system to control wheel movement and the spraying process. The developed system consists of a sprayer, nozzle, wheel drive mechanism, sensor, and microcontroller programmed using Arduino IDE. System performance was evaluated based on sensor accuracy and spraying effectiveness under different track lengths. The results showed that the sensor produced linear and consistent readings at slow, medium, and fast speeds compared with a as the reference instrument. The sensor also demonstrated stable performance, enabling accurate and real-time speed monitoring. In addition, spraying effectiveness and coverage area increased as the track length increased. Spraying effectiveness improved from 70% to 100%, while the sprayed area approached full target coverage. These findings indicate that the developed automatic spraying device can improve spraying performance and has the potential to support more efficient cabbage cultivation practices.
