Konstruksi Identitas Jerman untuk Menerima Pengungsi Ukraina Akibat Perang Rusia-Ukraina 2022

Abstract

This study examines how Germany constructed an identity to accept Ukrainian refugees due to the Russo-Ukrainian War 2022. In the wake of Russia’s Invasion on Ukraine’s territory in 2022 there were a lot of forced migration upon the Ukrainian citizens due to persecutions that threatened their safety. The Ukrainians sought out an asylum at the time and Germany provided exactly that, eventually becoming the largest place for Ukrainian refugees. This comes with problems, mainly from the economical and logistical aspects. Germany struggled in handling the massive amount of refugees, nonetheless the nation kept their border open. This is uncalled for since the last time this exact scenario happened in 2015, the reception of Middle Eastern refugees were the opposite. The author argues that such phenomenon can only be explained by an analysis that will be done through the lens of Constructivism theory to assess Germany’s decision. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method based on literature studies. The use of constructivism would reveal how Germany built their entire identity regarding refugees, and with it the constriction as well. While they do try their best to become a safehaven of an asylum, Germany still has to battle the issue of racial profiling before they can truly call themselves a country for the refugees.
