Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by hyperglycemia.
The continuous use of synthetic drugs often leads to long-term side effects,
necessitating the use of natural remedies derived from organic materials as
alternatives. This study aims to identify the flavonoid compound content, analyze
the most optimal dosage to reduce blood glucose levels in hyperglycemic mice,
and evaluate the feasibility of a book chapter as a learning resource. This
experimental laboratory research utilized a Completely Randomized Design
(CRD) on 42 male BALB/c strain mice divided into 6 treatment groups: normal
control, negative control, positive control, and three dosage groups of kuini
mango (Mangifera odorata) leaf extract (100mg/kgBW, 200mg/kgBW, and
300mg/kgBW). The extraction method employed was Soxhlet extraction using
70% ethanol as a solvent. The collected data were then analyzed using SPSS
through ANOVA and Duncan's post-hoc tests. Phytochemical screening revealed
that the kuini mango leaf extract positively contained flavonoid compounds. Data
analysis demonstrated that the administration of kuini mango leaf extract for 14
days was effective in significantly reducing blood glucose levels. The most optimal
dosage of the extract in lowering blood glucose levels was 100mg/kgBW, with an
average blood glucose reduction of 50,25 mg/dL. This result was slightly more
effective than the positive control group treated with glibenclamide. Kuini mango
leaf extract is effective in reducing blood glucose levels, with 100mg/kgBW being
the optimal dosage. The resulting book chapter is declared feasible for use as an
educational tool and reading material for the public.
