Abstract

The production process yielded XOS in a 1:1 liquid ratio of enzyme to substrate. A total of 18 broiler chickens aged 7 days from UD Tegal Mas farm were to divide into three treatment groups receiving XOS at doses of 0%, 5%, and 35% (v/v) in drinking water. The treatment was administered from day 7 to day 35, with feces samples collected twice at 15 and 35 days of age. Analysis included total nitrogen content using the Kjeldahl method and total LAB count through isolation on MRSA + CaCO3, followed by colony counting via the Total Plate Count (TPC) method. LAB confirmation was performed using Gram staining, endospore staining, and simple staining. Statistical analysis employed two-way ANOVA and the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The result demonstrated that 25% XOS reduced total nitrogen content to 2,21% (day 35), significantly lower than the control group (3,40%), indicating improved protein digestion efficiency. The LAB count in feces decreased with higher XOS doses (1,37 x 107 CFU/g at day 15; 2,05 x 108 CFU/g at day 35), suggesting intensified colony in the digestive tract. In addition, XOS supplemention led to a 29,95% increase in body weight at the 25% dose. In conclusion, XOS effectively reduced nitrogen levels in broiler feces while promoting LAB colony in the digestive system. These findings highlight its potential for improving nutrient utilization and growth performance in poultry farming.
