Abstract

This study aimed to improve students’ learning outcomes through the implementation of the STEM-based Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the topic of light in Class V of SDN Mangaran 03. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) and involved 26 fifth-grade students as the research subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and tests. The findings showed that the implementation of STEM-based PBL improved the science learning outcomes of the fifth-grade students of SDN Mangaran 03 on the topic of light. The improvement was reflected in the students’ learning outcomes, which increased significantly in each cycle. In the pre-cycle stage, the average score was 53.27, which was categorized as poor. The average score then increased to 71.54 in Cycle I, which was categorized as good, and further increased to 79.62 in Cycle II, which was also categorized as good. The percentage of students achieving learning mastery also increased from 7.7% in the pre-cycle stage to 53.85% in Cycle I and reached 84.62% in Cycle II. Therefore, the implementation of the STEM-based PBL model effectively improved students’ learning outcomes on the topic of light.
