Abstract

Background: Postoperative pain in femoral fracture patients is a common problem caused by tissue damage and inflammatory processes after surgery. Pharmacological therapy is often the main emphasis of pain management; however, non-pharmacological therapies like mindfulness body scan therapy to assist lessen the severity of pain. Purpose: To evaluate the impact of mindfulness body scan treatment on the degree of pain experienced by patients at Dr. Soebandi Regional General Hospital in Jember following femur fracture surgery. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest approach to examine changes in pain intensity among 15 post-femoral fracture surgery patients selected through purposive sampling to evaluate the effect of mindfulness body scan therapy on pain intensity. The study was conducted in the Seruni Ward at dr. Soebandi Regional General Hospital, Jember, from February 28 to April 15, 2026. All respondents received standard hospital treatment and mindfulness body scan therapy twice daily for three consecutive days. Pain intensity was assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: The majority of responders reported moderate discomfort prior to the intervention. The majority of responders reported a reduction in pain intensity following mindfulness body scan therapy. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test revealed a significant difference in pain intensity before and after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Mindfulness body scan therapy is effective in reducing pain intensity in post-femoral fracture surgery patients at dr. Soebandi Regional General Hospital, Jember. This study did not use a control group, and most respondents received analgesic therapy during the research process.
