Abstract

This study aims to implement the Least Connection algorithm for load balancing in the microservices architecture of PT. ASC using Nginx and PM2 to prevent increased server workload caused by all requests being handled by only one service instance. This study analyzes the impact of its implementation on system performance. The research method used is a quantitative method with an experimental approach. The research stages include system requirements analysis, architecture design, load balancing implementation, and performance testing using Apache JMeter with several concurrent user scenarios. The test results show that the implementation of load balancing using the Least Connection algorithm is able to distribute requests to multiple backend instances managed by PM2. The testing was conducted based on response time, throughput, and error rate parameters. Based on the test results, the system is able to maintain service performance under increased workload conditions up to a certain scenario with better request handling compared to the condition without load balancing. Based on the conducted research, the implementation of the Least Connection algorithm on Nginx can be a solution to improve the system capability in handling increasing requests through a horizontal scaling approach in a microservices architecture.
