Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the Project Based Learning model on the critical reasoning abilities of fourth-grade students in IPAS subject Chapter 7, “Cultural Diversity and Local Wisdom of My Country,” at SDN Blindungan 1 Bondowoso. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a non equivalent control group design. The research subjects consisted of 40 students divided into an experimental class and a control class. Data were collected through tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. The research instrument used essay tests that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis techniques included the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, t-test, and relative effectiveness test. The results showed that the data were normally distributed with a significance value greater than 0.05. Based on the t-test results, the tcount value was 1.711, which was lower than the ttable value of 2.024, indicating that Hₐ was rejected and H₀ was accepted. These findings indicate that there was no significant effect of the Project Based Learning model on students’ critical reasoning abilities in IPAS learning. However, the relative effectiveness test showed a result of 56.17%, which was categorized as moderate. Therefore, although statistically the Project Based Learning model did not show a significant effect, descriptively it was able to improve students’ critical reasoning abilities compared to conventional learning
