Abstract

Language variety is a variation of language used by heterogeneous communities. Language variety arises due to differences in social, economic, age, gender, and educational backgrounds, one of which is sociolect. Sociolect is a variation of language related to the social class of speakers, social status, and groups. Sociolect is divided into several forms, namely acrolect, basilect, vulgar, slang, colloquial, jargon, Argot, ken. The purpose of this study is to describe (1) the form of sociolect variety in the speech of teenagers in the film Galaxy, (2) Factors underlying the realization of sociolect variety in the speech of teenagers in the film Galaxy. This study uses a qualitative research type. Data in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences from the speech of characters in the film Galaxy that indicate sociolect variety and its context. The data source in the study is the Netflix application in the speech of the film Galaxy. The data collection technique in the study uses documentation techniques. The data analysis technique uses three types, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The analysis results obtained in this study include acrolect, vulgarity, slang, colloquialism, jargon, and ken. Factors underlying the realization of sociolect diversity in this study are influenced by age, gender, proximity, and informal situation factors. This study is expected to be a reference material in understanding sociolinguistic studies, especially regarding sociolect diversity. This study is still limited to sociolinguistic studies that examine the form and factors of sociolect diversity in the film Galaksi. Therefore, future researchers are advised to expand the study by examining other language varieties.
