Abstract

The phenomenon of the Banjir Tahu Festival in Kunir Kidul Village reflects the social dynamics of the community in constructing and maintaining local identity through cultural practices. This festival is not merely understood as a ceremonial event, but also as a product of social construction that contains religious, cultural, and economic values. This study aims to understand how the social construction of the Banjir Tahu Festival is formed and how the values and meanings embedded in it are produced and reproduced within community life. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with informants, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with triangulation techniques to ensure data validity. The study applies the social construction theory of Berger and Luckmann, which includes externalization, objectivation, and internalization. The results show that in the externalization stage, the community expresses collective awareness through various festival activities such as deliberation, thanksgiving rituals, and event implementation. In the objectivation stage, religious, cultural, and economic values have been institutionalized and recognized as shared social realities. Meanwhile, in the internalization stage, these values and meanings are absorbed by individuals through socialization processes within family and community settings, shaping collective consciousness. It is concluded that the Banjir Tahu Festival is a form of social construction that not only functions as a cultural event but also as a medium for forming local identity, strengthening social solidarity, and driving the local economy. Keywords: Social Construction, Banjir Tahu Festival, Local Identity.
