Abstract
Mental retardation children are children who have barriers in intelligence and adaptive behavior that occur before 18 years old. As a parent of a child with mental retardation, they must fulfill their child's needs like other normal children, especially in the developmental stimulation. Good parent stimulation will be obtained when parents have adapted and fully accept the child's condition. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between parental acceptance and the fulfillment of developmental tasks on school-aged children with mental retardation in SLB C TPA Kabupaten Jember. This research uses crossectional design. A total of 33 respondents were selected given simple random sampling technique. The data collection was done by giving the parent acceptance questionnaire and the fulfillment of developmental tasks of school age children in the mental retardation children compiled by the researcher. Data analysis used Pearson Product Moment correlation test with significance level 0,05. The result of the research showed that the mean value of parent acceptance was 57,12 and the fulfillment of developmental task was 92,30. The categorization conducted shows that 72,7% of respondents have the value of acceptance of the parents and 69,7% development tasks was achieved partially. There was no correlation between the acceptance of parents and the fulfillment of developmental tasks of school age children (p value = 0.076, r = 0.313). The absence of a relationship between the two variables can be influenced by several factors, such as parental knowledge about what developmental tasks should be accomplished in each period of child development and economic condition.
