Extensive field and laboratory investigations were carried out on a former sewage farm area in Berlin-Buch during 1993 to 1996. The objectives were to study the soil characteristics of the area and to calculate the soil water balance. For the purpose of this study, an observation station was built on the site equipped with Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR-probes) to detect the soil water content, a new model of rinseable tensiometer to detect soil water tension, and a meteorological station for rainfall, air humidity, temperature and wind speed measurement.en_US
