Abstract
Menstrual pain is defined as painful menstrual cramps without any evident
pathology to account for them. One of the methods that could be used as
menstrual pain relief was effleurage. Effleurage technique was a cutaneous
stimulation with smooth and flowing stroke. The objective of this study was to
determine the differences of menstrual pain level with effleurage technique giving
on SMP Negeri 1 Jember female students. This study was a pre experimental
study with one group pretest posttest design. Sample determination in this study
used non probability sampling technique with quota sampling method. Data was
analyzed with wilcoxon sign rank test. The result of this study demonstrated that
before effleurage technique was given, 11,8% (2 respondents) had menstrual pain
with severe pain level, 52,9% (9 respondents) had menstrual pain with moderate
pain level, and 35,3% (6 respondents) had menstrual pain with mild pain level
while after effleurage technique was given, 100% (17 respondents) had menstrual
pain with mild pain level (p value=0,002<α=0,05). The conclusion of the study
was that there were differences of menstrual pain level with effleurage technique
giving on SMP Negeri 1 Jember female students. The recommendation of this
study was for the youth red cross members to give effleurage technique to help the
