PENGARUH DIABETES SELF-MANAGEMENT EDUCATION AND SUPPORT (DSME/S) TERHADAP KUALITAS HIDUP PADA PASIEN DIABETES MELITUS TIPE II DI WILAYAH KERJA PUSKESMAS PATRANG KABUPATEN JEMBER
Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease which requires continous self-care.
Non-adherence to self-care can lead to poor glycemic control and complications.
This condition can affect quality of life. DSME/S is a process which facilitates
knowledge, skill, and abilities required to perform self-care. This study aimed to
analyze the effect of DSME/S on quality of life in type 2 DM patients. The design
was quasi-experimental with randomized control group pretest-posttest design.
The sample was 30 respondents which were randomly divided into 15
respondents as intervention group and 15 respondents as control group.
DSME/S was conducted once per week for 6 weeks. Quality of life was measured
by using questionnaire of Diabetes Quality of Life (DQOL). The data were
analyzed by dependent t test and independent t test with significance level of
0.05. The result of dependent t test revealed a significant difference of quality of
life between pretest and posttest either in the intervention group (p = 0.000) or
control group (p = 0.000). Independent t test showed a significant difference
between intervention and control group (p = 0.008). The increase of quality of
life was higher in the intervention group than control group. This result indicates
a significant effect of DSME/S on quality of life in type 2 DM patients. DSME/S
can increase quality of life by improving self-care knowledge and skills needed
to control blood sugar and prevent complications. DSME/S should be applied as
a health promotion to increase quality of life in patients with type 2 DM.
