The Effect using Video on Vocabulary Achievement of the Fourth Year Students of SDN Jember Lor 1 Jember in the 2005 / 2006 Academic Year
Abstract
This research was meant to investigate whether or not there is a significant effect of using video in teaching vocabulary on the fourth year students' vocabulary achievement. The design used was post-test only control group design. The research respondents were all of the fourth year students of SDN Jember Lor 1 Jember in the 2005 / 2006 academic year. The two classes were determined to be the experimental group and the control group by lottery after they had homogenity tes. Video was apphed in teaching vocabulary to the experimental group an lecturing was applied to the control group. To achieve the research objectives, an achievemen test was administered to collect the main data, while an interview and documentation were used to collect the supporting data. To analize the main data, t-test formula was used with the significance level of 5 %. The result showed that the statistical computation value of t-test was higher than that of t-critics (7,27 > 2.000). It means that there a significant effect of using video on vocabulatry achievement on the fourth year students of SDN Jember Lor I Jember in the 2005 / 2006 academic year. Based on the result, it is sugested that the English teacher consider using video as alternative media in teaching vocabulary to increase the students' vocabulary achievement.
