Abstract
Adolescence is a period of transition from childhood to adulthood. During this
period, female adolescence will experience physical change such as menarche.
They need mental readiness in dealing with such situation. They are often prone
to any reproductive risks caused by the infection that attacks the reproductive
organ due to the improper vulva hygiene behavior. The aim of this research was
to analyze the correlation between readiness in facing menarche and vulva
hygiene behaviour of female adolescent at Kebonsari 04 State Elementary School
Sumbersari, Jember Regency. This research employed correlational study by
using the cross-sectional approach. As many as 92 respondents were involved as
the sample in this research. The sampling collection technique used in this
research was simple random sampling. Data was analyzed using chi square test.
The results of this research revealed that the P value was 0.003 (0.003 ˂ α =
0.05), meaning that there was a correlation between readiness in facing menarche
with vulva hygiene behavior of female adolescent. The value of Odd Ratio (OR) of
4,079 revealed that the female adolescent who are not being ready for the
menarche are 4,079 times more prone to have improper vulva hygiene behavior
when compared to their fellow adolescents who are ready facing menarche. It is
recommended that nurse as educator and concellor should provide health
education regarding menarche and vulva hygiene in order to improve health
reproduction of adolescents.
