PENGARUH NONSPEECH ORAL-MOTOR EXERCISE: ACTIVE MUSCLE EXERCISE TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN KOMUNIKASI PASIEN STROKE DENGAN DYSARTHRIA DI WILAYAH KERJA PUSKESMAS SUMBERSARI JEMBER
Abstract
Stroke is a neurologic disfunction caused by the termination of blood supply to the
brain. One of the effects of stroke is dysarthria. Dysarthria is a deficit of verbal
communication skill experienced by patients with stroke due to paralysis of muscles
around mouth and tongue that cause disturbance in the process of generating voice
in speech process. One of therapies used to treat dysarthria is nonspeech oral motor
exercise: active muscle exercise to improve communication skills. This research
aimed to analyze the effect of nonspeech oral motor exercise: active muscle exercise
on communication ability of stroke patients with dysarthria. The method used is preexperimental
with one-group pretest-posttest design. Sampling technique applied in
this research was purposive sampling involving 10 respondents as the subjects.
Analysis of data used dependent t-test. The research results showed p value of 0.000
(p<0,05).The conclusion of this research is that there is an effect of nonspeech oral
motor exercise: active muscle exercise on communication ability of stroke patients
with dysarthria in work area of Public Health Center Sumbersari Jember. Nonspeech
oral motor exercise: active muscle exercise is expected to be able to be applied by
nurses in the rehabilitation process of stroke patients with dysarthria either in
hospital or in the society.
