FAKTOR RISIKO KARAKTERISTIK SOSIAL PADA KEJADIAN TETANUS NEONATORUM DI KABUPATEN JEMBER TAHUN 2012- 2013
Abstract
Tetanus neonatorum is an infectious disease that occur in infant aged 3 up to 28 day
after birth. Tetanus neonatorum still become an urgent health problem in Indonesia
especially in Jember. The purpose of this research is to analyze the risk factors of
social characteristics that influence with tetanus neonatorum in Jember 2012-2013.
These factors are mother’s education level, mother’s occupation, access to health
care based on distance and transportation, health financing, poverty, and decision
makers in the family related to selection of birth attendant and umbilical cord care.
This research was analytical study using case-control design. The sample was 13
infants suffering tetanus neonatorum and 39 infants without tetanus neonatorum who
have matched for sex, date of birth, and who lives in the same village. The result is
presented in table, text, and analyzed by logistic regression test with significance
level of 5% (α=0.05). The result showed that mother’s occupation, health financing,
and decision makers in the family related to selection of birth attendant are risk
factors were significant influence with tetanus neonatorum. Meanwhile, there is not
significant influence between mother’s education level, access to health care based
on distance and transportation, poverty, and decision makers in the family related to
umbilical cord care with tetanus neonatorum. The health financing is the most
variable that influence with tetanus neonatorum. The increase in marketing strategies
of health insurance and health education about umbilical cord care for nearest family
was needed to prevent tetanus neonatorum.
