Abstract
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that occurs throughout the world. TB
incidence throughout the world increases each year. To overcome this problem,
WHO and IUATLD develop DOTS program which consists of 5 components.
Drug taking supervisor and microscopic checkup are two of those programs. This
research was done to analyze the correlation between the role of drug taking
supervisor and the result of AFB smear of the pulmonary tuberculosis patients.
This research applied observational analytic method using ecological study
design with retrospective approach. Sampling technique used was purposive
sampling involving 24 respondents. The data were collected by using
questionnaires and analyzed using fisher’s exact with CI 95%. The research result
showed that there were 13 patients (54.2%) who considered that the role of drug
taking supervisor was good, and 17 patients (70.8%) had changed from AFB+ to
AFB after 2-month treatment. Statistical analysis gained that p-value (0.023)<α
(0.05) which means that there was a correlation between the role of drug taking
supervisor and the result of AFB smear of pulmonary tuberculosis patients in
community health center of Tanggul, Jember. The research result is expected to
help resolve problem of tuberculosis disease in Indonesia, especially at
community health center of Tanggul, Jember with regards to the role of drug
