Abstract
IV line was an invasive procedure which done to insert catheter into
intravenous perifer acces. The foremost problem which was possible to occur
from the patient with Peripheral venous cannulation was phlebitis. Peripheral
catheter-related phlebitis is caused by the inflammation of the tunica intima of
a superficial vein. The inflammation is due to irritation of the tunica intima by
mechanical, chemical or bacterial sources. IV line treatment was one of non
pharmalogical treatment to cure the phlebitis used observation, aseptic
technique, and changing dressing wound to prevent the transmission of
microorganisms and reduce the risk of cross-infection. The purpose of this
study was to compare the number of leukocytes with intravenous perifer acces
before and after given IV Line treatment. The design of this study was pre
experimental research with one group pretest and posttest. This research used
22 respondents as sample. The result indicate that the leukocytes before given
IV Line’s treatment average shows 6940,91 cells/mm3 and average 6.631,82
cells/mm3 after the IV line’s treatment. the analyzed used paired t test with 95% CI
(α:0,05)got p value 0,026<α (0,05) as the result. The conclusion from this
research that IV Lines treatment has a significant effect to prevent the risk of
phlebitis risk event through the indicator of patient’s leukocytes number. Based
on the research, IV Lines treatment can be used as a nurse intervention by
making the standard operational procedure (SOP) abaout IV Line treatment to
prevent the phlebitis.
