DULAY’S SURFACE STRATEGY TAXONOMY ON THE SELECTED TEXTS OF THE BILINGUAL BIOLOGY TEXTBOOK: A STUDY OF ERROR ANALYSIS IN TRANSLATION
Abstract
In learning something, people make errors. Errors happen in a lot of
things, such as in learning a foreign language. This study concerns to find out the
errors on the bilingual Biology book which is written by Nunung Nurhayati. The
analysis is based on Dulay’s theory with Surface Strategy Taxonomy focus.
The research objective is to analyze errors on the book and to reconstruct
the sentences in the correct one. This is expected to help correcting the errors on
the book.
There are some techniques to analyze the errors. First step is to analyze the
sentence by using the basic constituents of a sentence. Then, the types of each
sentence are determined. After that, the errors are analyzed and classified by using
Surface Strategy Taxonomy. Finally, the errors will be corrected, and then the
sentences will be reconstructed by using Nida’s three stages system of Translation
process.
The data are the selected sentences which are taken from the book on each
chapter. It uses both documentary and random data as the method of data
collection. In addition, this research is a quantitative and qualitative research.
Furthermore, the result of this research proves that there are errors found in the
book in which misformation is the most frequent error among those of Surface
Strategy Taxonomy.
