dc.description.abstract | The thesis discusses the short story of D. H. Lawrence, Daughters of the Vicar. It
is about two daughters of a vicar who have different marriages. They are Mary and
Louisa. Mary chooses a man to be her husband because of his wealth and his position
in society. Louisa chooses a man that she loves to be her husband. The discussion of
the thesis will focus on the comparison of the main characters’s marriages. The goal
of writing the thesis is to give information about their marriages. The other goal is to
extent our knowledge in English literature, especially D. H. Lawrence’s short story
Daughters of the Vicar. The thesis uses psychological approach since it is used to
analyze the fictitious character and their reasons to marry. There is also sociological
study used to explain the relationship between the main characters to their
surroundings and to the other characters in the story. The method to use in analyzing
the thesis is the inductive method because it draws a conclusion from particular
problem into the general one.
