    Abstract
    This c lassro om a c ti on r e se a r c h w a s int e nd e d to im pr ove the gr a de X.5 students’ re a ding c ompr e he nsion a c hi e ve ment b y using S mall Gr oup W or king Te c hnique . Th e students of c lass X.5 a t S MA N e ge ri 1 S r ono w a s c hos e n a s the subj e ct s due to t he ir diff i c ult ies in c ompre he nding the r e a ding t e xt. This cla ssroom a c ti on re s e a rc h wa s done in two c y c les in whic h e a c h c y c l e c ove re d the stage s of pl a nning the a c ti on, im ple menting the a c ti on , obse rva ti on a nd re fle c ti on of the a c ti on . The n, e a c h c y c le wa s c onduc ted in two mee ti n gs. The da ta a bout the students ’ re a ding c ompre h e nsion a c hieve m e nt we r e c o ll e c ted through re a ding c ompre he nsion test in e a c h a c ti on . Obse rva ti on wa s used to moni tor the pr oc e ss of te a c hing re a ding through S mall Gr oup W or king Te c hnique a nd the students’ pa rticip a ti on. F ur ther , ther e we r e 21 students of 34 students ha ving re a din g c om pr e he nsion a c hieve ment sc or e ≥ 7 5. The a ve ra ge o f students ’ re a d ing sc or e wa s 74. 38. I t mea ns th a t the ta rge ted p e rc e nta ge 75% o f the tot a l stude nts obtaining sc or e a t lea st 75 c ould not be a c hieve d. B e sides, ba se d on the c lassro om obser va ti on that wa s do ne in C y c le I , it wa s f ound that the stud e nts’ a c ti ve pa rticipa ti on in tea c hin g lea rning pr oc e ss of re a ding throu gh S mall Gr oup W or king Te c h nique wa s 67, 64 % . S o, the pe rc e ntage of the stud e nts’ a c ti ve pa rticipa ti on in the pr oc e ss of tea c hing re a ding through S mall Gr oup W or king Te c hnique wa s less tha n the tar g e ted pe rc e nt a g e that wa s 75%. Th e re f or e , the a c ti ons we re p roc e e de d to the se c o nd c y c l e b y r e visi ng the w a y of the s tudents doing S mall Gr oup W or king Te c hnique , that w a s the a c ti vit ies fr om doi ng the a c ti vit ies in a ti me int o d oing the S mall Gr oup W or king Te c hnique ac ti vit i e s one b y one b e for e movi ng t o the n e xt a c ti vit ies to make the stude nts mor e foc us in doing e a c h a c ti vit y of re a ding c ompre he nsion . B e sides, the tea c he r ga v e c lues to make them e a sie r in doing t he re a ding a c ti vit ies. The pe rc e nt a ge o f the students who got ≥ 7 5 in re a ding t e st i n C y c le II wa s be tt e r (88,2 3 % ) than in c y c l e I (61,7 6 % ). The a ve ra ge re a ding t e st sc or e i n c y c le II wa s 81,08. This pe rc e ntage ha d fulf il led the tar ge ted pe r c e ntag e that wa s 75% of the students ha d a c hieve d the standa rd sc or e that wa s ≥ 7 5. B e sid e s, the students’ a c ti ve pa rtici pa ti on in the re a ding tea c hing lea rning pr oc e ss a lso im pr ove d fr om 67, 7 4 % i n C y c l e I to 82,35 % in C y c le II . Thus, the pe r c e ntage of the students’ a c ti ve pa rticipa ti on in the re a ding tea c hing a nd le a rning pr oc e ss through S mall Gr oup W or king Te c hnique ha d a c hieve d the tar ge ted p e rc e ntage ≥ 75%. This mea ns that both the students re a ding c ompre he nsion a c hiev e m e nt a nd the students’ a c ti ve pa rticipa ti on in the r e a ding te a c hing lea rning pr o c e ss t hr ough S mall Gr oup W or kin g T e c hnique im pr ove d in c y c le II a nd fulf il led the tar ge t of thi s re se a r c h. B a se d on the re sult s, it would be c onc luded tha t S mall Gr oup W or kin g Te c hnique c a n im pr ove the students’ re a ding c om pr e he nsion a c hi e ve ment in two c y c les. The n, it is sugge sted to t he Engl ish tea c he r to use S mall Gr oup W or king Te c hnique a s a n a lt e rna t ive method in t e a c hing re a ding c ompr e he nsion s ince it c a n incr e a se th e students’ r e a ding c ompre he nsion a c hieve m e nt.
