    Abstract
Language is a means of communication. Without language human being cannot communicate with others. Man as a human being uses a different way of communication than other creatures. They are transmitting messages via the speaker’s mouth and the listener’s ear. Most linguists state that language has two different types. The first is spoken and another is written. Short story is one of written forms of language that is made up of many sentences and can be analyzed based on their distribution. This thesis analyses the use of derivational adjectives in the written literary text “ Cowboys in Alaska” written by George P. McCallum. It consists of three parts and every derived adjective in each part is analyzed. Whether they are attributive adjectives or predicative adjectives. In this story they have special function to influence the meaning of the sentences.
