    Abstract
Code refers to a set of language system that is used by a speaker in his/her conversation. Code can be dialect, language, style, standard language, pidgin and creole. Bilingual people mix or switch their code in communication. Code mixing and code switching can make their communication effective. Besides showing their ability in other languages, it also indicates that they have reasons for doing it. The theory of this thesis is code mixing and code switching proposed by Blom and Gumperz (1972) cited in Hamers and Blanc (2004:258). This thesis is intended to know language variations and forms of code mixing and code switching that are available and the reasons for the use of code mixing and code switching on the dialogue of two selected episodes on Gak Cuma Cangkru’an on JTV. This thesis analyzes the dialogue of Gak Cuma Cangkru’an on JTV. The topic of the selected episodes is “Koperasi Kuat Masyarakat Sejahtera” which was held on June 26 th and continued on July 18 vi th 2011. Gak Cuma Cangkru’an is an interactive dialogue program that is used to maintain Javanese language that is almost forgotten by people who live in Surabaya and the surrounding cities. Useful information and unique concept are the main characters of this program that make it interesting to analyze. This thesis uses library research to find out the concepts relevant to the theoretical framework of the research. This thesis uses qualitative data to obtain verbal description. In this thesis, the descriptive method is used to describe the code that is mixed and switched by the speakers and the reasons by analyzing spoken texts taken from the interactive dialogue of Gak Cuma Cangkru’an on JTV. The result of the discussion proves that the language variations used on the dialogue are Suroboyoan dialect, Basa Ngoko, and standard Bahasa Indonesia. In the discussion, the hosts and the guests mostly use the form of word and rarely use the form of phrase. The discussion also presents four reasons influencing the speakers to use code mixing. In addition, code switching used on the dialogue are situational switching and metaphorical switching. As the result, there are eleven reasons that are grouped into three factors influencing the speakers to use code switching
