THE ROLE OF ENGLISH TO THE CAREER PROGRESS OF STAFFS IN BANK SYARIAH MANDIRI THE BRANCH OF JEMBER

Abstract

English is an expandable language. It developed about 1.500 years ago. English language is Jermanik language which comes with Anglofrisia dialect brought to Britania Island by Jermanik immigrant; the language is called Old English. As the days go by, the development from the Old English to Middle English started in age 1066. The age of modern English is begun in age 1500, started by Early Modern English (1500-1800). And from age 1800 until present time is age of Late Modern English. English become the first international language in the world; it is used as a Lingua Franca in international world. Everyone has to learn English, because it gives influences in every element of human being life, starting from education world, fashion world until career world. In Indonesia, almost all of companies have relation with foreign company; in this case English is needed as business language. Related to Bank Syariah Mandiri, based on the writer opinion, English is very needed to improve the business of BSM. Because BSM is one of the banks that have cooperation with foreign country, English will be used due to the fact that BSM product called Western Union (Transferring money to foreign country) uses English as a written communication. As a student of D III program of faculty of letters, the writer realizes the significance of English as a supporting education to get the job. The writer tries to converse the importance of English in career world as a support to the career progress. With the short experience of Job Training in BSM the branch of Jember, the writer tries to write this report with the source and knowledge which is got when job training is conducted. Related to the career progress in BSM it self English takes a big part as a one of requirements for staff to get career promotion to higher level. Staff have to take the Assessment test as a requirement to get that promotion. The Assessment test is conducted in two sections, the written section and the interview section which is conducted in English. “THE ROLE OF ENGLISH AS A CAREER PROGRESS OF STAFF IN BANK SYARIAH MANDIRI THE BRANCH OF JEMBER” is the title that may represent the content of the report. The title is selected based a reason about the concern to the career world, especially in banking world in which as the implementation of the job training which has been done in Bank Syariah Mandiri the Branch of Jember.
