| dc.description.abstract | This study investigates the application of speech act in the main character  of movie “Cars” (2006), focusing on identifying language functions or  illocutionary act and its implication for English language learning. Speech  acts are component of English language teaching that used to understand  language phenomena such as requesting, commanding, congratulating,  offering, giving an opinion, etc. (Austin, 1962). Utilizing qualitative discourse  analysis, this research examines the main character, Lightning McQueen,  which is his utterances, to identify types of illocutionary act classified by  Searle (1967). The findings indicates that there are various types of  illocutionary acts occurs in Lightning McQueen’s utterances represent  language phenomena in daily life conversation. This study concludes that  incorporating the classifications of Illocutionary act occurs in Lightning  McQueen’s utterances can enhance students’ pragmatic competence,  fostering a better understanding of real-life communication. The research  underscores the importance of using authentic materials language teaching  to improve students’ engagement and communication skills. | en_US |
