An Analysis of Pancasila Student Profile Values in the Conversations of English Textbook for Junior High School Students

Abstract

The Pancasila Student Profile is in line with the implementation of the Emancipated Curriculum to develop noble character. Textbooks are one of the teaching materials and learning resources in developing students’ character values. The aim of this research was to analyze the character values in the Pancasila Student Profile that are embedded in the conversations of the English for Nusantara textbook for grade VIII of Junior High School. The research design used a qualitative descriptive approach. The data collected from observation checklist and documentation by using content analysis. The finding showed that the English for Nusantara textbook for Grade VIII of Junior High School embedded all the character values in the Pancasila Student Profile, namely having faith, fearing God, and having a noble character; global diversity; mutual cooperation; independent; critical reasoning; and creative. There are 19 conversations that contain the six character values of Pancasila Students and are found in all chapters. Therefore, the English for Nusantara textbook for Grade VIII of Junior High School is already good as a teaching and learning medium for developing students’ character because its content is in the form of conversations embedded all the character values of Pancasila Students.
