This study is aimed at identifying the cultural identity in Imbolo Mbue’s Behold the Dreamers using Homi K. Bhabha’s postcolonial theory. Using qualitative data provided in the novel as well as out of the novel as the contextual background, data are collected using close reading techniques. Furthermore, the data are processed and analysed by mapping any quotations related to the focus of discussion about hybrid cultural identity with reference to Bhabha’s concept about unhomelines, mimicry and hybridity. Analysis is continued by relating the text to the context, namely the African diasporic subject in America. The result of this study shows that hybridity experienced byJende and Neni Jonga, the main characters in the novel is the survival strategy to live in the hostland. However, imitating the host culture in terms appearances, behavior, and accent, the cultural change makes them long for their homeland where they stick in the middle between past and present.en_US
