In recent decades, Global Citizenship Education (GCE) has been discussed and studied. Textbooks play a critical role in canalizing particular ideologies or values. ELT textbooks are no exception. In response to this, this paper reports on a critical discourse study that examines how GCE is represented in the prescribed Indonesian ELT textbook published by the Ministry of National Education. Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) using Faichlough’s framework indicates that the ELT textbook depicts GCE which is presented through visual and textual artifacts. This finding implies that the discourses in the textbook depict GCE. The textbook showcases various contextual topics such as environmental issues, digital and financial literacies, differences in communities, also individual and collaborative participation in society. For this reason, language textbook authors and language teachers need to take into account the interplay between GCE and language use when designing and using ELT textbooks.en_US
