dc.description.abstractIntroduction: Scabies is an infectious skin disease caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite. Class IIA Jember Prison is the 5th overloaded prison in East Java with the highest case of scabies in the prison as many as 244 cases. This study aims to determine the description adequacy of clean water in class IIA Jember Prison and analyse the condition of personal hygiene towards the incidence of scabies disease. Methods: this research method is analytic observational with case control research design. The environmental population (clean water) was taken with a total sampling of 38 bathrooms to determine the description adequacy of clean water which includes water sources, physical quality, quantity, and infrastructure. Data collection techniques by observing 38 bathrooms and indept interviews with 2 prison officers in the water supply section. The population was 1,073 people and the number of samples was 92 people, namely 46 case samples and 46 control samples using stratified random sampling techniques and distributing questionnaire sheets to determine the condition of personal hygiene in prisoners. Data analysis using the Chi Square test and OR (Odd Ratio) values are presented in the form of narratives and tables. Results and Discussion: The adequacy of clean water for sanitary hygiene consists of two sources (dug wells and bore wells) equipped with bathrooms, water taps, and sinks. However, water has a condition that does not meet the requirements of physical quality and quantity. Respondents with bad personal hygiene and affected by scabies were 71.7% and respondents with good personal hygiene and not affected by scabies were 54.3%. The results of the chi square test of personal hygiene and scabies variables with a pvalue (0.02) and OR value (3.022). Conclusion: Adequacy of clean water for hygiene and sanitation purposes for prisoners in Class IIA Jember does not meet the physical quality and quantity requirements, making it insufficient for hygiene and sanitation purposes. Prisoners in Jember Class IIA prisons also have bad personal hygiene, including bad hygiene of the body, clothing, bedding and bath towels. Bad personal hygiene in prisoners in Jember Class IIA Prisons has a risk of 3,022 times experiencing scabies than prisoners with good personal hygiene.en_US
