dc.description.abstractThe KMHE competition which focuses on optimizing energy in developing cars is a form of contribution to overcome the problem of dwindling energy sources. To get a car with low energy consumption, one alternative is to design the car as light as possible. This study examines the effectiveness of topological optimization (TO) methods in making lightweight component designs while maintaining the ability to accept the applied load. The components that were optimized were in the form of a support bracket on the main axle steering of the TITEN EV-2 which was produced using additive manufacturing with PLA+ material. The load considered in the design is the load when the car is braking and turning. Two experimental methods were carried out based on the loading process when performing topology optimization. The first method is carried out by performing topology optimization with separate loadings after which the results are combined which will produce the design of the first method. The second method is carried out by applying both loading conditions to the TO process. As a result, the second method TO shows very good results compared to the first method and the redesign was carried out to produce a new design that is ready to be used. The resulting new design has 34.25% less mass than the original design. The FEA simulation results also show an increase in design strength after topology optimization is carried out. The maximum von-mises stress reduction of the new design in the case of braking, turning and combined loading (braking and turning) respectively is 12.2 MPa, 12.95 MPa and 22.8 MPa compared to the original design, namely 30.16 MPa, 26.19 MPa and 51.9 MPa.en_US
